Does CBD Make You High?

Date Modified: September 6th, 2020

CBD has been around for a while now, and it’s more popular than ever before. CBD is cannabidiol, the dominant compound in hemp, and you can buy it in many forms.  The term can be misleading in the sense of marketing because CBD is not the only compound in the hemp plant, and many products out there labeled as “CBD” contain multiple compounds in the plant material, rather than CBD alone.  And one of the compounds that naturally occurs is THC – yes, that THC.

So, the question is, can CBD, or any hemp products, get you high?  Let’s answer that question thoroughly today.

CBD Alone Cannot Make You High

First, let’s talk about actual CBD, the compound we all desire and is widely available in isolate form.  CBD could potentially help in a lot of ways, but making you high just isn’t one of them.  Cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive compound, which means that no matter how much of it you take, you won’t experience any of these effects.

THC in Hemp Cannot Make You High

Hemp naturally has about 0.3 percent THC occurring in its chemical composition.  Yes, THC is a psychoactive cannabinoid, so it can make you high.  In marijuana, there’s about 50 times the amount of THC as there is in hemp.  This is why marijuana will produce mind-altering effects.  But hemp cannot, because there just isn’t enough of it present.  Therefore, even hemp products that contain THC cannot possibly make you high.

Final Thoughts

The bottom line is this: CBD, and all hemp-based products, will not get you high.  There simply isn’t enough THC present in the chemical composition of hemp to have that effect on you.  Therefore, if you wanna start taking CBD for wellness purposes, no need to worry about potential psychoactive effects.
